Crude Oil Storage Tank Dewatering System
Make water draw-off more repeatable.
Water collects at the bottom of crude oil and hydrocarbon storage tanks. The Agar ID-200 Series measures local hydrocarbon-and-water concentration at selected points, helping a PLC or DCS respond to the approaching phase change instead of relying only on a fixed drain time or visual observation.
See the phase change before product reaches the drain
APPLICATION VIEW
Sediment, changing product, temperature and an emulsion band can complicate draw-off. PMA works with the site team to review tank geometry, sump, drain line, process connections, output and control philosophy before an instrument arrangement is selected.

Confirm water at the measurement point before enabling draw-off.

Use valve position, operating mode and site interlocks in the approved control sequence.

Trend the continuous signal as the emulsion or hydrocarbon boundary approaches.

Close and alarm at the engineered threshold, with independent protection where required.
A practical control sequence
Define the opening, transition and closing conditions around the tank, outlet and operating procedure rather than a catalogue assumption.
Application engineering
PMA reviews the P&ID, tank drawing, product range, temperature, pressure, materials and proposed probe locations.
Control-system integration
Your questions answered.
Storage tank dewatering questions for project teams.
Can an existing tank be considered?
Yes, subject to engineering review of connections, measurement location, valve arrangement, control system and site safety requirements.
Does the detector operate the valve directly?
The instrument supplies a measurement signal. How a PLC, DCS or other control equipment uses it is defined by the approved project design.
Is one probe always sufficient?
No. Tank geometry, risk, control philosophy and independent protection determine the arrangement.
What should we send PMA?
A P&ID, dimensional drawing, process conditions, materials, connection details, product range, required output and hazardous-area requirements.
